My son and I have been making this comic book for a few years now. It’s in the style and tone of “Spawn” and “The Dark Knight” (Jojo’s favorites…) The subject matter of our comic is madness and religious hallucinations: it’s about the epic battles and Apocalyptic showdowns that all take place in one man’s mind. It is ironic and darkly comedic in tone, but the style is the thing: it’s really just a framework (an excuse if you will) to let Jojo’s whacky imagination run crazy with the art. I guarantee, you’re NEVER gonna know what’s on the next page…
We started making the books for fun, and we’ve had a blast making and selling them at our local comic book store in Bangor, Top Shelf Comics and at Coast City Comics in Portland, and at our regional Comicons (at the Boston Comicon, and at the smaller Portland and Bangor Conventions.) At the conventions, Jojo gets to meet and learn from world famous artists, pencilers, inkers (and he got to meet Stan Lee and Frank Miller in Boston!) The local comic book community has been extremely supportive and helpful for Jojo at every step!
The series runs 11 issues total, completing the entire arc, and explaining how and why the Earth was not sterilized on October 2, 2014 (the prophesied End Times, per the Jehovah’s Witnesses…) The original monthly issues are available, as is a collected graphic novel (the Whole Story!)
Jojo is now a sophomore in Highschool. He is already working on some illustrated short stories and his next project is called "Kind", where the main characters are all animals. He continues to draw constantly, on any scrap of paper he can find.
We welcome other contributors to BC and have started a local comics roundtable because... why not?!
